Museum of Ceramics

Opened on the 1st of June 2007, The Museum of Ceramics is located next to the Romanesque church of San Tommaso. The rcih collection and precious handmade objects granted by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio of Ascoli Piceno and the Matricardi family have found their home in this extraordinary atmosphere and courtyard.

The museum is divided into five areas which allows visitors to travel through the centuries in the production of ceramics from bowls in ancient maiolica of the 15th century to the creations of the 18th century and 19th century vases, plates, urns, coffee-makers, cups made by Paci Manufactures (1808-1856) and Matricardi (1920-1929) and Fama.

In the section dedicated to the “legato” of Antonio Ceci (doctor and antique collector from Ascoli Piceno) donated in 1920 to the Council of Ascoli Piceno handmade crafts by Deruta, Faenza, Montelupo, Savona and Genova.

Of noteworthy importance is the section dedicated to a series of hand painted tiles by the famous Castellani artists such as Francesco and Carlo Antonio Grue and Berardino Gentili from the Covent of Sant’Angelo Magno in Ascoli Piceno.

The Museum has a fully equipped laboratory, with a ceramic kiln and a potter’s wheel.
